Communities First?

A meeting was held tonight (7th of November) to set up Penparcau Forum to undertake some of the work from Communities First as the funding is ceasing in March 2013. The aim is to have a community led organisation to carry out voluntary tasks.

Dylan Jones was elected as the Chair of the Forum, Goronwy Edwards was elected as Vice-Chair of the organisation.

Among the items discussed was what is needed for the Penparcau community. For instance a community website, calendr of events, community cafe and better links with other organisation.

What do you think Penparcau needs? Do we need more events? Do we need an organisation to help with the community? Please give us any feedback on the blog.

Cymunedau’n Gyntaf

Cynhaliwyd cyfarfod heno (7fed o Dachwedd) i drafod sefydlu Fforwm Penparcau. Y bwriad yw y bydd hwn yn cymryd gwaith Cymunedau’n Gyntaf ac yn ymgymryd a rhywfaint o waith cymunedol, megis digwyddiadau.

Cafwyd trafodaeth ynglyn a blaenoriaethau i’r Gymuned a thrafodwyd cael gwefan gymunedol, digwyddiadur/ calendr, caffi cymunedol a datblygu cysylltiadau agosach gyda busnes.

Penodwyd Dylan Jones fel Cadeirydd y Fforwm newydd gyda Goronwy Edwards yn Is-Gadeirydd. Bydd y gwaith yn dechrau i chwilio am gyllid ar gyfer sefydlu’r fenter gymunedol yma.

Oes ganddoch chi ddiddordeb mewn cymryd rhan?  Beth ydych chi yn feddwl sydd angen ar y gymuned ym Mhenparcau? Ydych chi yn meddwl y dylai’r gymuned drefnu digwyddiadau eu hunain?  Rhowch nodyn i ni ar y blog.

Community garden/Allotment Update

Aberystwyth and Penparcau Town Council met last night. Over the last four years, the town council has worked on obtaining more land from the county council to develop allotments.  Two years ago, Ceredigion County Council assigned a lease for 25 year to the town council for land on Fifth Avenue.

A public meeting was held on the 25th of September to discuss this with residents. As a result of this consultation, and taking into consideration some of their concerns, we have agreed to give 12 months to develop a community garden instead of allotments. This is on the condition that the community group become a properly constituted body and if Ceredigion County Council allow the lease condition to be varied.
This will be a compromise, but hopefully, local residents will be able to use the community garden for leisure and growing, rather than a closed off area.
We will be in discussion with the residents of how to set up the group and where they can obtain grant. Can you help? Would you be interested in helping to develop this site as community garden? Please contact us.
